Let There Be Sap
– A coffee table made out of pine and spruce rich in resin.
Today, we consume without reflection. As a reaction to this, “Let There Be Sap” wants to establish a durable relationship between itself and its user.
This project is about making good use of the natural grain and structure of the pine and the spruce. It is also about literally illuminating these qualities. Because the wood is rich in resin, it allows light to pass through it. So, a lamp hidden inside the table brings the wood to life: it shines with a glowing light while the colors of the spruce make a moving pattern appear.
By highlighting these properties of the pine and the spruce, I am hoping to create something valuable: I want to help forge a stronger relationship between an object and its user.
